The Regional Water Authority along with officials from Sacramento City are working in conjunction with local car washes in the area on a campaign they call “Be Water Smart”. The initiative is trying to raise awareness of Northern Californians about washing cars during the drought.
The car wash operators involved with the program have invested heavily in water efficient equipment and recapture. Some of the systems are 100 percent recapture.
The “Be Water Smart” program is trying to inform residents that washing at home is a tremendous waste of rare water and that the car washes in this program have the technology to save a ton of water compared to washing their cars in the driveway. Coupons are offered as well to wash locations participating in the program.
